First of all you must have customer service skills, some kind of knowledge about the cash register and how to work a calculator as well as having mathematics is a plus. Be prepare for on the job training because there are no two cash procedures the same. Be as honest and truthful as possible and always make the customers welcome. Embrace your job otherwise you won't have the ability to do it properly..just be your friendly self and everything would fall into place...try to be positive and make yourself at home after all you'll be spending most of your time at the work place .. hope this little advice help in someway.

Greet the customer with a smile. Being friendly and respectful. Paying attention to what you’re doing because they are too. Keep your area clean.

What you may not know about Dollar Tree employee hours?

An insider told me that new in-store employees only get 15 to 25 hours working at the Dollar Tree - only the managers work full-time. Has anyone else heard this?

I have applied to many jobs. 3 call backs for interviews. Interviews went well, but no job offers. Very frustrating. I am 59 years old and have 20+ years retail experience, in management. I can't even get a job as a cashier. I am also over weight and maybe prospective employers think I can't do the job. I am going to persevere and maybe someone will give me a chance.

You have to go through a series of videos and quizzes, then a manager gives you basic register training. You ask for help when needed.

You can also go to the store on open interview day and apply and have your interview on the spot, I hope this is helpful.

I have been unemployed for over a year now. I'm looking for part time work and I have 12 years of management experience I have close to 17 years of supervisory including the military and I also have retail sales and about 11 years in call center work as well. Odd thing is I'm still having trouble finding work I'm beginning to think it might have something to do with my age
